Program
More Than Carpentry Christian Ministries serves Metro St. Louis residents by integrating Christian discipleship into neighborhood outreach, personal relationships and life skills mentoring through carpentry education and apprenticeship training.
We provide opportunities for unemployed or underemployed people to learn the trade of cabinet making, including furniture and millwork . Our program is approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for Workforce Investment Act funding. Please contact our office for additional information.
Class is in session. WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE SPRING 2012 TERM beginning JANUARY, 2012.

TO APPLY: Click here for a PDF application. Complete and bring the application along with a state issued photo ID and one other form of identification (birth certificate, social security card, passport, etc.) and a copy of your High School Diploma or GED certificate.
You may also request an application by email to tammy@morethancarpentry.org . Once your completed application is received an enrollment interview will be scheduled.
This is a voluntary program. The qualifications for application are:
1) Must have a GED or high school diploma
2) Must be 18 or over
3) Must be drug free.
During the 18-week pre-apprentice class students participate in life skills training, coaching in job readiness skills, conflict resolution, and many other topics relevant to employment. Students also participates in personal financial management classes, drawing and Bible Study, taught by volunteers who are professionals in their industry. During the training and continuing through the apprenticeship program, participants are supported and encouraged by mentors who walk with them through their journey to permanent employment, helping them to overcome stumbling blocks along the way.
Once the student successfully completes the pre-apprentice class,he or she is eligible to apply for the apprenticeship portion of the program which offers a stipend while they continue on-the-job-learning. These participants continue to receive coaching and instruction until successful completion of the 8,000-hour apprenticeship when they receive a certificate issued by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, qualifying them to enter the field of cabinet making as a journeyman.
More Than Carpentry serves its surrounding community with the love of Christ by providing opportunities for church groups, mission teams or other interested groups to serve through community projects. These projects vary but may include street clean-up, beautification, painting, light construction, community garden, etc. We arrange one-day to one-week projects which focus on serving others. More Than Carpentry invites the community into its Jobs for Life classes and Bible studies offering the opportunity to benefit from this valuable teaching.
